That was one long and exhaustive list of cheats. I do plan to use them, infact, I have started doing it already. Just a small question though, for a person like me, shifting from paper back to online blogging is quite a challenge.
Having content sorted, different places and same content and managing it after the hectic day becomes a tough call.
Is there anyway where I can use one offline client and put all my posts there which automatically gets published to multiple blogs?

The biggest challenge I have had in blogging is trying to decide "what to do next". It is not that I can't think of anything to do; in fact it is quite the contrary: there is too much to do. Writing a new post, commenting on other blogs, writing an article for an article directory, submitting to carnivals, research in my niche or a new niche. The list goes on. As a blogger you want to maximize the return on your efforts, but sometimes it seems like everything you could be doing is the most important at the time.

Thanks for your insight Matt.

Hello all, it seems that you all enjoyed reading my work so I am going to feel free to feel a little self satisfied and privately smug... okay enough of that. A big thanks to Pearl for letting me share my thoughts.

One thing I've been doing lately is writing larger and more in depth items that I can safely leave for two or more days while the conversation carries on. Sometimes this works well and other times (when I've not been as interesting as I thought I was) people wonder where I've got to.

@Mike: you are actually on to something with the "one year ago on %blog%" method. Glossy magazines do the same thing and more or less rewrite the same content on year or two year cycles and because the readership changes over time they can easily get away with it.

Lord Matts last blog post..PDF - What is it and how do you use it?

@Deb .. same here, it also depends on the topic you are blogging about. The depth of research on your posts is amazing and that's bound to take more time than writing an article with just our opinions :)

@Morgan: thanks for stopping by.. hope all is well at your end

@Mike.. I just saw your comment was trapped in akismet! It definitely is a challenge to keep up with multiple blogs - especially with full time employment co-blogging is a wonderful idea.. one thing you should think about is linking to that blog when commenting on other blogs..

thank you Mike, I'm forcing myself to get back to doing things that I really love doing or else I just stay depressed..

Kudos to both Pearl, Matt and commenters -
I've used some of the same tips and tricks as mentioned but picked up more from this post than many others.
Now all I have to do is employ the same strategies!
Thanks again to all.

This was interesting to see how others manage a number of blogs. It always amazes me how others can maintain numerous sites when I have difficulties keeping up with one :-)

The theme posts are a great idea, but I never get around to them either :-)

Thanks for asking about the new blog, it's coming kind of slow. We launched it along with a weekly podcast, and although we have been pretty good on the podcasts, we haven't done much posting. My friend and I have been pretty strapped for time since the start, but I think we are going to get going pretty soon. I recently was able to find the time to start posting a little more frequently. On the podcast side, we've released 9 episodes so far, so that's been going well.

I only recently installed google analytics, so I don't have an idea of traffic, but I'm willing to bet that it's pretty low. I'm sure it will pick up if we keep putting content up there.

Glad to see that you're getting back Pearl! Hang in there!

Thanks for asking about the new blog, it’s coming kind of slow. We launched it along with a weekly podcast, and although we have been pretty good on the podcasts, we haven’t done much posting.
Thank you Matt for the inside look on the techniques you use to keep all those blogs running successfully, they will definitely help me in getting my focus back to posting regularly

@Mike: I remember writing down that plan where you write certain number of posts per theme but never really followed it whole heartedly. I like the idea of highlighting older posts, I think that might be a great way to get back in routine.. thank you for stopping by Mike.. I meant to ask you about your new blog.. how's it going?

@Mig: you still have a huge load if you are managing 3 blogs of your own and 10 for clients :) I have a difficult time with just one blog with a full time job ... although I set up a few domains recently that'll be a challenge and this post comes in at the right time...

This has been a difficult task for me lately, as managing blogs is not the only highlight on my agenda. But when managing blogs was main priority I was basically doing the same things you do, Matt - minus the quotes part. I rarely use quotes in my entries, I prefer mentioning the related topic and sending the readers to the original article via links. All the "cheats" were in my "blogger" age (blogs on blogger.com) - I no longer feed Google with content so today you cannot see these techniques on my entries anymore. I manage 3 personal blogs and about 10 for my clients. Experience with the "cheats" and actually creating original content proved to me more efficient in the long term for my sites and my type of audience. It is however hard to always come up with something new, after all... there's nothing new under the sun. ;)

Thanks Matt, great post! I especially like the "n links about x" approach. I always just title those posts something like x number of interesting links. I hadn't thought about including links in a theme.

I used to do the future posts, On really productive days I could do a week's worth of posts.

One "cheat" that I've seen on at least one blog, LifeHacker, is the "A year ago on %blog%". I always thought that was a good way to get at least one post every now and then. They also do a roundup of top posts, I don't think I have enough posts to do one of those though.
