With both of my computers now slowing down, I started to panic a bit today as I hadn’t been backing up my drives lately!  Actually, I don’t even remember ever backing them up.  While researching different things that are going wrong with the pc and laptop, I came across a post on online backup service at Gadget Advisor.   The author has listed a few online backup solutions but recommended Mozy over other services so I’ll be looking into it, until I purchase an external hard drive to be on the safe side.

By the way, Gadget Advisor, where I found this article is a fairly new site.  From the archives it looks like they started in September and in just a couple of months have already written 60+ articles on all kinds of computer hardware and software, tech news and of course gadgets and the seems to be growing pretty rapidly.   The site seems to focus on the product releases and useful tech news.  I liked quite a few articles on their site, specially the top extensions for Firefox and Logitech Universal Remote.  Check out the site if you are interested in finding about newest gadgets while I back up my hard drives.

  1. Yea, I just backed up my computer yesterday. An external hard drive is really a necessity if you don’t have a machine with a large amount of memory. Its really amazing how the cost of memory has come down in the last several years.

  5. Do you know I’m really bad at backing up my computer, this has given me a gentle reminder, thanks.
I tried to decide what I would miss most if all my stuff disappeared, and I think it would be all my pictures and photos. At least the old fahioned way of sticking them in an album or scrap book was relatively safe.

  6. An external hard drive is all you need, Judith. It’s somewhat more expensive than a internal one, but it’s worth it. Of course, it’s not convenient if you want to use it for everyday tasks, but it’s perfect for keeping valuable data.

  7. External hard drives would be fairly cheap on the long expected “Black Friday”. a 1 TB HD will be $169 at Dell. you should check it out.

  8. You know mine have been slowing down recently too. I’ve been meaning to backup/update/reformat for quite a few weeks now. Thanks for the post and the reminder. I’m a big fan of Apple’s new Time Machine. It’s beautiful and simple. I just wish it had a bit more options on it as an external HD.

  9. Backing up is critical, and I’ve always used and external hard drive, but I’m now at the point where I’d rather use an online service – part of the cloud computing paradigm – where all the data is remote, but accessible from anywhere.
