With so much talk about page rank in the past few weeks, I read a lot of articles, as I am sure all of you did too. I also read a lot of people mentioning different page ranks for their internal pages and wondered what my site’s individual pages ranked at.

So a couple of minutes of search on Google, [did I mention I LOVE Google because these guys rock?] I was taken straight to the article “Find Pagerank for Internal Pages of your site” [note the power of correct headline]. Jon Lee, the author of this article and blog, provides a link to a site named LivePR which not only provides page rank of your site’s individual pages, it also sorts them for you!

BTW, I found Jon’s site very interesting and have subscribed! Another add to my ever growing google reader! which needs a thorough cleaning soon and I will be thinking of Meg’s letter to her subscribers and her criteria for dropping some feeds, ‘coz I find it intimidating to see 1000+ new items every time I open it!

Back to individual page rank calculations! This is how my pages are ranked and although I didn’t get a PR5, I am pleased to see a lot of PR3s and a couple of 4s in the mix…

Why would you need to know the PR of individual pages? Well, read Jon’s article and then don’t forget Kumiko’s article that talks about a bit more on how people are using this number!

[I thought of providing links to these articles, 'coz its running over the format and is really not useful, so Im working on the links right now]

Sunday was a nice day at fresh perspectives, weather wise and other wise, for a few good surprises! For one, Google was kind and assigned this blog a page rank of 4 and gave me a feeling of ‘official belonging’ to the blogosphere. What more? it came on my birthday (yes, not blog birthday, my birthday ;) so that was a nice surprise!

Now SportSayer would probably have to add one more page rank display button for blogs that got the PR for the first time because ‘has been’ or any other from his selection may not quite fit in this situation! May be a ‘lucked out’ button?

A real nice long vacation on birthday would also have been great idea and as a matter of fact I feel it should be mandatory to stay out of work for a few days on or around your birthday. What do you think?

Which brings me to this question:

If money or time were not an issue, and you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Where would you like to go? is a post from: Interesting Observations - On blogging, social media and self improvement! the original blog written by Pearl.

So what does the term Google mean? I always wondered about it subconsciously but never took the time to find out…… and today their logo encircled in colorful candy made me ’curious‘

The name ‘Google’ is a play on the word ‘googol,’ coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner.

The name ‘Google’ is a play on the word ‘googol,’ coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner. A ‘googol’ refers to the number represented by a 1 followed by 100 zeros. It’s a very large number. In fact, there isn’t a googol of anything in the universe — not stars, not dust particles, not atoms. Google’s use of the term reflects our mission to organize the world’s immense (seemingly infinite) amount of information and make it universally accessible and useful.

From Google itself

“When is Google’s birthday?

Google opened its doors in September 1998. The exact date when we celebrate our birthday has moved around over the years, depending on when people feel like having cake. For more on Google’s history:
http://www.google.com/corporate/history.html ”

Now when do they celebrate a company’s birthday? Is it the date the domain was registered, or the company’s incorporation date?

See some more information on Search Engine Land.

While you are at it, check out some cool logos from Google’s past birthdays and more…

They say there are no guarantees in life, but boy, we expect so much from Google and after typing in a word of two, we sure take it for granted to give exactly what we ask for – and for the most part, it does!

Does speed-linking has to be a weekend activity? It seems customary to write link posts over the weekends but here I am, sharing some of the links that I have followed on using Google Reader more efficiently. These posts have wealth of ideas and I am sure you will love to bookmark them if you plan to use some of the techniques described in them.

Organizing your Google Reader for efficiency, from Library Clips

Tips for Google Reader Search from Google’s blog

Aibek writes 16 more tips for Google reader

Adam Pash even has a video on the keyboard shortcuts to get good with the reader, that he posted in earlier this year

Short time after lifehacker’s post, Lifehack also had a wonderful post on reader hacks

And of course how can you not take a look at Steve Rubel’s perspective on trends analysis?

Snoskred has written a detailed step-by-step post on how Google Reader can make your life easier which I recommend if you have never used the reader and Sephyroth is also writing on tips and tricks to use reader more useful so if you feel you need more, hop on over to their blogs as well.

Now two of the world’s richest people, they still play an active role in the company, encouraging fresh approaches to Google’s unique culture and its expanding suite of services.

In this video they offer a peek inside the Google machine, sharing tidbits about international search patterns and the philanthropic Google Foundation project (which soon became Google.org). They talk about how their shared Montessori background led to the company’s “20 Percent Time” policy, which is directly responsible for success stories such as Google News and AdSense. Google’s dedication to innovative thinking and employee happiness is behind everything from the offices’ specially soundproofed projectors (which make it much easier to follow what’s being said in meetings) to the company’s thematically rotating logo.

When I signed up with Blogger one day, I had not given a careful consideration to the name of the blog or even the title. Before this blog, I used to start blogs and would quickly lose interest and would delete them after a few months.

But with Fresh Perspectives it was different from the very beginning. I thought I would want to provide my perspectives on all things interesting! And named the blog Interesting Observations! Little did I know that the names do matter!

This time I commented on other blogs and the blogging community quickly took me under its wings. Then one day I realized I had ‘met’ quite a number of bloggers who were blogging on WordPress so I felt I needed to get my own domain and move on WordPress too. Well, by now I had gained quite a number of backlinks and didn’t feel like changing the name from Fresh-Perspectives to anything else but couldn’t get the .com domain so settled with .net! But I still kept the name Interesting Observations!

As I got to know more and more people via social networking sites and group writing projects and forums, more and more people started asking me why I call my blog by a name that is different than its domain! well, I don’t have a very logical answer other than the truth – that I wasn’t being careful!

And a couple of weeks ago if you searched Interesting Observations, it was no where to be found on the net! But, today I Googled Interesting Observations and am pleased to share that this blog is 2nd in the top 5 list on Google and tops the search list on Yahoo

I think that is quite an improvement :-) Although I still have no idea how that happened lol

Today, I found something very interesting going on in the blogosphere.. actually I found it yesterday but had a small problem that I will talk about in a second!

So I was at Chee Kui’s blog who is participating in a link exchange project called viralink project! The project was started by Andy Coates . There is a lot of discussion on Andy’s blog on how this project can help you raise your page rank (or not).. Right now this blog’s PR is zero! zilch! and I need all the help I can get from the links so I have decided to participate.. If you want to increase your page rank and decide to participate in the project, go ahead and follow the instructions below! Remember to add only one blog to one star!PS.. Chee- you should be getting a ping back and remember to update your links :)

copy and paste the Viralink and instructions below this line

Below is a matrix of 120 stars, I have already added a link to my blog onto one of the stars, all you need to do is copy and paste the grid into your blog and add your own link to one of the other spare stars, and tell others to do the same!

Viralink

When I receive a ping back once you have added the Viralink to your site I will add your link to this grid, and each person who copies the grid from here will also link to your site!

Rules: No Porn Sites

Only 1 link per person (i.e don’t hog the viralink!) Please don’t tamper with other peoples url’s. Enjoy!

copy and paste the Viralink and instructions above this line

I tried copying and pasting the links from Chee’s site into the blogger editor and it doesn’t copy the URL’s – so I ended up downloading Qumana – the blog editor and it worked like a charm!!

If you want to read in detail how the logic of this tree will work – go to his page but here is the visual he provided!
