Interesting Observations

blogging, social media and self-improvement!

Which Firefox extensions are you currently using?

firefox-ate-ie There are a lot of sites talking about top 10 or top 30 Fiefox extensions, but here are the ones I’m enjoying at the moment..

  1. AdBlock Plus: get rid of those ads on any web page
  2. Answers: quick definitions, references of words, you just need to hold the Alt key and click on the word to get your answers
  3. BetterGmail 2: is an add-on by Gina Trapani of Lifehacker, it’s a must for any Gmail lover – uses greasemonkey scripts to enhance its functionality and appearance
  4. CoolIris Previews: this one is pretty cool as it lets you view pages without even clicking on the links or leaving the current page
  5. Delicious: view all your delicious links via your browser, or tag pages as you browse
  6. Digg Firefox extension:  Lets you submit, digg your friends’ recent submissions, view their comments, top stories,  or recently popular stories and even lets you view the information about the page you are currently viewing in firefox
  7. Digg Sidebar:  Shows stories in being dugg in real time
  8. FastDial: lets you save thumbnails of your favorite pages on the web, installed it recently and seems to be pretty nice so far
  9. FireFTP:  very handy since you don’t need to download any software – although I also like FileZilla
  10. Forecastfox very handy extension that sits on the status bar and is completely out of your way of browsing
  11. Foxmarks Bookmarks Synchronizer: a must to synchronize bookmarks on different computers
  12. FoxyTunes: I recently discovered this one and am enjoying it so far
  13. NoScript: block java, java script and other executable content only from sites that you trust
  14. RSS-Icon in Awesomebar: is an RSS and Atom feeds aggregator that sits in your Location Bar
  15. One Click Installer for WordPress
(not available for Firefox 3.0 yet)
  16. Picnik: one of my favorite online image editors
  17. Pixlr Grabber: With the Pixlr Grabber add-on, you can copy, save, share or even edit your final grabs – including any image or background – with just a right-click.
  18. Reminderfox: I’ve become a huge fan of this extension because it has the pop-up reminders of your to-do list, without having to sign in to any application
  19. SearchStatus: Display Google PageRank, Alexa rank and Compete ranking anywhere in your browser, along with fast keyword density analyser, keyword/nofollow highlighting, backward/related links, Alexa info and more.
  20. Shareaholic: Allows you to share your content with various social networking sites
  21. StumbleUpon Discover new web sites based on your interests  (is there anyone who doesn’t have it?)
  22. TabScope: I use it on one of my computers but never got used to it for some reason
  23. I recently got rid of Yahoo Toolbar and installed Yahoo Mail Notifier

As I started to list these extension, I started thinking there are too many of these and may end up crashing my Firefox one day,  and searched for something that might allow a backup of all the extensions, and lo and behold, there it was:   FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) not only backs up your add-on’s, it can also synchronize them from different pc’s.  The only problem is that they haven’t released the updated version for Firefox 3.0, but as soon as they do, I’m installing it.

Need I use any more of these?  This is the first time I made a list of all the extensions I’m using across all pc’s and was a bit surprised how much I rely on them.

How about you? Have you downloaded Firefox 3.0 yet?

If not what are you waiting for?

and if you are die hard fan of Firefox like I am, which extensions are you using?

PS: As an aside that gave me a chuckle, this post is written with Windows Live Writer and the word Firefox is underlined red for spelling error and on right clicking to correct it,  I notice they don’t even have the word Firefox in their dictionary!  Huh?   here is the image:

That’s a great list of extensions. I must say though it seems a little odd that you would use ad blocking software when you run a blog that one would presume earns you some money from ads.

Well, true but some blogs use flash pop-ups which are very distracting, which is where i find this add-on is a must.. I don’t think the text ads are that distracting… that’s just my opinion and if they bother you, you can definitely block them :)

Cool list Pearl! Gosh, I guess your firefox is stuffed with those extensions. I only use 10% from your list. :)

yes it is stuffed but with FEBE, I shouldn’t have to worry I guess :) oh, and these are extensions on ALL of my pcs – work and at home so it’s not really that bad

thanks for stopping by Ken.. hope to see you around more often now that you are back blogging…tc

Love the list! I use the SU plugin, the PR and Alexa rank checker, so it jsut shows up at the bottom of the screen without me needing to go out and check, the link selection plugin where you just select with your mouse and all those links will open either in a new tab or window.

Hi Grace: haven’t seen you around for a very long long time and really great to hear from you.. hope all is well at your end..

you know after listing these, I noticed I missed rank checker, SeoQuake twitterFox, AlexaSparky, BlogRovR, BlueOrganizer and Mahalo follow :) Can’t believe I’ve gone nuts with these extensions :-) May be that’s the reason I couldn’t go with Flock, although I love flock too..

Hey Pearl! I know… I’ve been visiting all my friends the second I was back on the web. :) You’re one of the first people I thought of! So how’s it going?
