Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You…

In a few hours from now, Barak Obama will take the oath to preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the US.  We all know that putting such a huge responsibility on one person’s shoulders is most probably going to lead us all to disappointment but then like Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “We must accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope.”

Right now, that is exactly all of us Americans feel.   Hopeful.  Heck, that is how most of the people all over the world feel about Obama’s rise to Presidency.  This is an amazing moment in our country’s history!    We certainly have come a long way from the day Martin Luther King, Jr. gave the “I Have a Dream” address on August 28th, 1963, but there is still a long way to go.

But with leaders like Obama, who can motivate and inspire others to do the right thing, there is a hope that most people will come together to keeping America strong and proud. In the video below, you can see how some of the very famous celebrities have come together and made pledges to Barack Obama, supporting his call for change. We ALL can do the same. Make a Pledge today to make that change happen, however small it might be.

The Presidential Pledge

Because, together we will be the change that we seek.

I am going to have to do one of these posts for the inauguration as well. It truly is a day that should give hope.

Even though I’m not American I can’t help compare him to Bush and in that light anyone would look good :)

@Adam – sure is.. lot of reasons to write about it today! One of the things everyone missed with Bush was his oratory skills and not being able to motivate anyone.. I disliked his shrugs and smirks so much.. glad we have a fresh face there, so sure, we should all write about it..

@Mikael – You know when Bush sent troops to Afganistan right after 9/11, we all felt he did the right thing. Mistakes get made when you are under tremendous pressure so who knows what Obama will do in future, but today I feel pretty good about him being our President :)

I found it very interesting that the chief justice got the oath wrong and they had to do it again!

As a Canadian I have to say that I am a bit jealous at the way Americans celebrate bringing in a new president. It’s a very proud moment and people seem to come together at the thought of things changing for the better.

We don’t seem to have that political passion. When the Prime Minister gets elected here it’s second rate news.

I am very happy for the US and hope that Obama can make a lasting impact.

Well written and said Pearl. Obama can only change if we all are willing to help positively.

I’ve never been this excited for a president before. Perhaps that’s because I’ve never voted for the winning president before :) Looking forward to good things to come…

I can’t wait to see the long term effects of Obama’s presidency. Although honestly, it doesn’t matter who is President; the change that is coming is human, not partisan.

Bush was totally unprepared to be on the president position, but at least he gave us a few good laughs. Obama is the man on the track.
