Beating Every Day Stress

I have mentioned before that in the short time I have been blogging, I feel like I am addicted to it.  I also work full time and the whole thing is really getting me tired.  I am sure bloggers who have been blogging for longer periods of time would attest to some of the same experiences.

We all know blogging is fun but not easy.  It is difficult work.  And I confess, I am getting exhausted these days sitting in front of the computer for longer and longer hours.   I am sacrificing some of those areas of my life that if not paid attention to now can end up hurting me, for example today at work, I didn’t even ‘find’ time to take lunch break because I was too busy taking care of a huge project!   I have to get myself organized a bit better to straighten  this chaos.   As I have always done,  I needed to take a step back today and look at some things that I needed to either start doing differently or just stop doing completely in order to achieve some balance and be able to enjoy all that I want to do.  So I started brainstorming and came up with the following list.   This list is just the start and I plan to continue adding to it as more and more ideas come to mind.   I hope the items listed here will help some of you too.

  1. Don’t forget to take lunch break every day.
  2. Get away from the desk and the computer. Go out of the building, even if it is for 20 minutes!
  3. Do not schedule too many appointments in a single day, absolutely allow more time between appointments
  4. Delegate assignments to others depending on their capability
  5. Every day, do something I really enjoy, even if it is for half an hour
  6. Learn to say NO to extra projects, social gatherings and activities that I do not have time for and will not be able to commit to [does it make sense?]
  7. Try to get enough sleep [it is now 1 am and I need to stop doing this]
  8. Iron my work clothes at night.
  9. Do not procrastinate [this one is going to be very difficult]
  10. Write things down instead of trying to remember everything – I missed a doctor’s appointment and forgot to return library books and here I am counting cents made in Adsense or from Kontera!
  11. Limit caffeine intake to [ 2 cups a day? ]  currently I am on at least 4 cups a day!
  12. Take a few minutes every day for some quiet time, down time when I am not thinking anything.
  13. Hang around optimistic people and try to stay away from complainers.

There.  I am too tired to think anything else at this time.  But please add your stress busting ideas in the comments, and I will post the updated list next week with the provider’s site link next to the item.  I hope we can come up with a grand list of good stress busters.   Once we have enough ideas,  I will post the entire list in another page of its own so its easily accessible.  What do you say?

I think a lot of new bloggers get stressed out is because they want success fast in a short period of time.

If a person is blogging for $, then he/she has to look at this blogging project as a well thought out, well planned endeavor, like any business endeavor.

In this instant world, we want instant success, we forget the old saying, Rome is not built in one day.

After getting my hand dirty in this blogging world for a couple of months, my mind is still very clouded on what is the niche that I want to blog.

At the moment, I am writing anything in my mind. But, I really want to find a niche for myself. I want to be a known blogger but on the other hand, I don’t want to compromise my Christian belief, my wife and my mother role.

I believe the mean is as important as the end.

My 2 cents only.

Thank you for dropping by my blog and give me a wonderful compliment.

Great tips, Pearl. These can really take the edges off the mind-numbing mundanities…

Start by following your breathing. Going in coming out. Once comfortable just listen to your heart beat at the same time. 5 minutes and you will find a big difference

I make it a point to get on the floor on my cat’s level to play whatever game of his choosing just so he’s not always looking at the back of my head or hearing me laugh at online conversations. This way, he’s contented in our relationship. Also, it helps me in my vain efforts at keeping him from trying to take over the keyboard or bogart the puter screen. Sometimes, if I have my hair down, he’ll often try using it to floss his teeth while I’m in my puter chair. It’s not very much fun on me arthritic neck with his dangling weight added to it..

Kaylee – hope you are well

Hi Ray.. I’ll be trying to follow these to not get drained every day!

Hey Peter – I think that is a great tip!! Breathing techniques are really important sometimes – I wrote about it sometime ago… thanks for the tip!

Markeff… thanks for coming by again… and thanks :) I am better now…

Saboma – thats sounds like lot of fun… although I can only imagine, I don’t have any cats ;)

Faraz… smoking might be a short time stress buster I believe, but it definitely will add to your stress later in life by really jeopardizing your health .. so no i don’t think I’d want to include it in the list!! :)

Hey Pearl- How is it going? So funny that you talk about the stress of blogging, I have “met” so many interesting people blogging and now don’t have the time to visit as often as I would like. How do bloggers do that while continuing to blog and respond to comments?

I have to say that crocheting squares for Share a Square project over at This Eclectic Life is very relaxing for me. I get myself a nice cold drink, and if it’s a warm day, I am out on my porch crocheting.

Good luck with your eye and listen to your doctor! Take it easy this weekend with the pc.

Chocolate … plying oneself with some scrumptious chocolate, hehe. Well that only works for me for an instant, but the moment is divine :-)

I’m one of the worst when it comes to getting stressed, trying to fit everything into a 24 hour day. One thing that helps to take me away from all of it is when I take time to play with my little shitzhu dog, giving her some attention. Having and loving a dog is a magical experience. They have nothing but love to give back to you, and never crap on you for anything :-)

I find Jenny’s response much the same as mine. I’ve met some incredibly wonderful people (you included), and it stresses me out that I don’t have enough time to spend with all of them on a regular basis. Knowing that some don’t take offense to my sporadic visits or emails helps to alleviate a lot of that.
