Interesting Observations

blogging, social media and self-improvement!

5 years from now?

Do you ever think about any of the following questions? Say about 5 years from now,

  1. would you still be blogging?
  2. what would your blog have achieved?
  3. would you be putting in more numbers of hours into your blog?
  4. would you be reading same blogs you are reading today?
  5. would you be still be using WordPress or switch to another platform? (if you answered yes to #1)

I am sure most of us would like to make a living from blogging but that just is not realistic, and there are a number of articles written by some well known bloggers on this subject which I agree with.

What are your personal goals as they relate to your blog?

As I went through Darren’s latest article on 10 blogs he reads, I thought I read 7 of the blogs he reads! and my 8th blog is his own blog of course! And I am sure blogs that are popular today will remain on top and may be become even more popular in the coming years just because of the valuable content they provide but what happens to the rest of millions of blogs like ours? The ones that are struggling to come up with good content on a daily basis?

There, a lot of questions are going through my mind! I would really like to know your thoughts along these lines.

If you decide to share your thoughts on your blog, let me know in the comments and refer to this post so I and the rest of the readers can follow your thoughts!

Announcement: I have also been thinking a lot about ways of finding out who reads my blog! So, I have added a new page ‘Who Are You’. It would be nice if you introduced yourself.

As a network evangelist and with all the interesting experience from blogging – its a givers gain you know – my answer will be:

1: yes
2: yes
3: probably
4: for sure
5: I use WP now and will use it as long as there is nothing better.

Please remind me of this post in 5 years:-)

Emma

I hope to continue on in 5 years. I have a feeling I will have accomplished a lot in that time. If WordPress is still the platform of choice, I will at least know how to customize it by that time.

The thing is technology changes so rapidly. Blogging may evolve into something else by then. But it is good to have goals, and “forward looking statements”.

Replying to your questions:

1. would you still be blogging?

Don’t know (I’m honest): I wish I can continue doing it… I guess in the future I won’t blog daily but I would like, from time to time, to write something :-)

2. what would your blog have achieved?

Be able to write something and have enough discipline to do it :-)

3. would you be putting in more numbers of hours into your blog?

Don’t think so… I’ll test new stuff (for sure) but I won’t dedicate so much time as now (I’m unemployed right now).

4. would you be reading same blogs you are reading today?

No… I think I’ll start prioritizing blogs I have on my RSS… Probably I will delete many of them and I’ll keep those which I really consider interesting :-)

5. would you be still be using WordPress or switch to another platform? (if you answered yes to #1)

Don’t know… For the moment Blogger is enough for me :-)

That’s it: I replied it! :-)

But… What about you? You didn’t reply your own questions! :-)

Looking forward to read your answers :-)

Paquito.

I blog mainly to keep a journal of my art progress……..
I’m hoping to transfer both my blogs to my domain address when I get time or find someone with the expertise to do it for me…(still looking)
I will probably still read the same blogs if those people are still blogging as they are my friends….
I don’t think I will put more hours into blogging as my painting time suffers :)
ps sorry I didn’t answer these in order….my excuse?…I’m an artist :-D

Good one. I stumbled.

Incidentally, I wrote something along this line timestamped for my Tuesday schedule post.

I took it 2 steps further, you can read it when it is posted on Tuesday, US Eastern Time 1am :).

1. Yes
2. I do believe I will have more readers than now because I am a nobody blogger now and a small fry blogger :).
3. Yes, I will. I hope to put in more times after I finish my board exam next spring.
4. Might not be, depends on who will provide more value for me.
5. I don’t know. I got my Bachelor of computer science degree in 1982. Within 25years, it is beyond my wildest dream to see the develop of IT. So, this is a question to be answered in the future.

Five years? What an interesting question. Pearl, the Web is changing at such a fast pace… I am not even sure that the blogs, as we know them, would be still “alive.”
We’ll probably use other devices to communicate – portable devices – and we will use more images than text… Maybe…
So I cannot tell you “yes, I will still be blogging” but writing is my life and that’s something I will do till the end…

pearl

@RennyBA – if I am blogging in five years :) yes, I’ll definitely remind you

@Emma – welcome to my blog and thanks for commenting… you are right, with technology changing so rapidly, who knows what we will be doing!! tc and kit

@jamy – thanks for commenting…. my wishes are with you to gain more and more readers :)

pearl

@paquito… first of all, our best wishes to you for getting your dream job as soon as possible…. that is a good goal to keep actually, to be able to improve on writing and staying disciplined about it! Oh my answers? I was not able to come up with concrete answers so threw it at you guys :) I hope to gain much more knowledge about this medium and become really good at making money and hope my ideas and putting them in writing improve over time too…:)

@Laketrees – lol Kim, I put them as bulleted list as those things came to mind, there wasn’t supposed to be any order to my dilemmas :) and blogging does take away a lot of the time from other many important things in life!! As a matter of fact, I am on vacation just because i was quite tired and needed to recuperate :) so this week my answers are coming in later than usual too …… you should move to your own domain though – thats a must for your kind of work!

@kaylee.. yes you do put in a lot of hours seems like LOL and you should definitely move to wordpress! i am sure you’ll enjoy it!
